</div>
I finished my Comicon challenge, if it wasn't for the extension i don't think i would have. If you know my life at the minute you know that recently I'm tasked with moving and decorating right on deadline time for comicon. But I worked at it and got it as finished as its going to be. So I'll update you a little bit on what I was doing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgssuBqhW88XsP4iQIgHlGFK-XvTl78XqDMsw_MCuFOuKA1gwnoMvbQtrbFbVgx7y8Yc3uTkM9dC0AmwbDNyjgQfexPOz203VQ-8kWZikmwALZTrcm0RjKbDpeoXtpEcStilY4fiedE3y4/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgssuBqhW88XsP4iQIgHlGFK-XvTl78XqDMsw_MCuFOuKA1gwnoMvbQtrbFbVgx7y8Yc3uTkM9dC0AmwbDNyjgQfexPOz203VQ-8kWZikmwALZTrcm0RjKbDpeoXtpEcStilY4fiedE3y4/s1600/9.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So i never really talk about texturing usually as its normally just churning your way through maps. Basically after decent enough bake that gives you a nice point to make cavity maps with. If there is any blups, which i always seem to have I usually take the maps into 3d coat to fix the seems. I do this with the diffuse but also the normal map as it always like to leave you some unwanted gaps. Anywho the rest of the texturing is just overlaying textures and brushes and the hard bit for me is getting the materials look right. I'm still not sure what my metal is made of lol. I did get time to add the arm which I'm glad about. I purposely blew it out of proportion because her exoskeleton isn't form fitting,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXwFIHezdzgEkHAhsWBHo06Q9mZd5e8_yex397-xmz9B9BHENNJxQEx9IQKBHtPncjzbHCytzvUrjADhVYibj3dKi2V5_CiYpbLRltmo3N5dS1kB6VlXNnJC0GlMlo2PT_BqPRg9yq48/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXwFIHezdzgEkHAhsWBHo06Q9mZd5e8_yex397-xmz9B9BHENNJxQEx9IQKBHtPncjzbHCytzvUrjADhVYibj3dKi2V5_CiYpbLRltmo3N5dS1kB6VlXNnJC0GlMlo2PT_BqPRg9yq48/s1600/10.jpg" height="254" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I could then pick any colour i wanted....now obviously I was drawn towards the pink. Having that hair colour for 3 years has affected my colour choice. But i decided to go for a blue as its a nice compliment to the orange and yellows in the piece. Again i deliberately tried to keep the palette limited as it can get too much very quick.<br /><br />I used Mixamo to rig the character, i finally figured out how to get the free trail working and its an amazing program. Unfortunately i gave myself a harder time having an asymmetrical mesh and with all the hard surface stuff i had to edit it in max to fix this. The rig isn't perfect and I need to go back on it to make it better but for the purpose of one pose it does the trick. I used marmoset to render my images and you can see below the submission files for the challenge.<br /><br /></div>

I look forward to going onto more projects now from this as I have learnt a lot and I feel I'm improved. This is the start of rebuilding a better portfolio and my characters may not be perfect yet but god dam they're gonna be the more I practice.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm still alive it just seems like i don't update my blog as often as I should these days. So its been a month or so and it's been a slow month, with each passing month new commitments come into play and trying to get work done is hard but I am adamant to keep improving myself even if the process is long and arduous. This month i competed in my first spit paint, i really need to do more of these. It was extremely fun and it pushes you to learn fast and hard. </div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikuhsCusYM9bnos6YMV_jrIJrewzpHu-qQhNFprlQIBPsLidyvBlCd8Do2jcidf-cPeNjcfM-CjRh7UXyfjLs85_TqN5zBKtKFePSihl06oS8bw5N6SS41yLd3tFUpZR0Qh4LGdtMLN_U/s1600/KingRaven.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikuhsCusYM9bnos6YMV_jrIJrewzpHu-qQhNFprlQIBPsLidyvBlCd8Do2jcidf-cPeNjcfM-CjRh7UXyfjLs85_TqN5zBKtKFePSihl06oS8bw5N6SS41yLd3tFUpZR0Qh4LGdtMLN_U/s1600/KingRaven.jpg" height="320" width="280" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
NEWT IS BACK, I can't even remember if I ever said on the blog but I'm in the process of making newt into a Dota 2 courier. I have the diffuse almost done and i have to get a normal and stuff on the go. I don't usually work backwards like this (to do the norm last) but in this instance i didn't want it to look too realistic and this way i can have a good hold on what need normals). After this though i have to do some major research into the animation process of Dota 2. I've never attempted anything like it before and it looks weird as fuck but if i can do it myself I will do my best. Below is just a test presentation template so don't worry about all the grey space lol.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11DUmBPwuDVJLbAtVzUE5WWUE5qyiSaIn3zKWCjiCi77YEVbedMf2xJ89Kx5ho36wNPKKm8ph7CWmBqE8sFJCSETVwNR8pGVm5SmH188G4O8ErDmVcPounNfSPJlOWaC0H4_haCAtT_k/s1600/NewtPresenation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh11DUmBPwuDVJLbAtVzUE5WWUE5qyiSaIn3zKWCjiCi77YEVbedMf2xJ89Kx5ho36wNPKKm8ph7CWmBqE8sFJCSETVwNR8pGVm5SmH188G4O8ErDmVcPounNfSPJlOWaC0H4_haCAtT_k/s1600/NewtPresenation.jpg" height="197" width="320" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've also wanted to so some anatomy 3D studies, at the minute I've only done this one but i do intend to do more. I know what i lack in my sculpts and that's detail and i find it very hard to focus on things when I'm giving a whole character so I'm hoping this way i can manage it a lot better while improving my abilities.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFownPqXYjHydoWZ9PuivGr_e6p92CC5XWcbnvXkBhns5GDPsGvzCetYMJ6ffdAqmD4sYO_Jok307fYnlDPa6F-fmhzqGzuh2LAGBQMsRngHmNNRoUU3DxSrFQhHuNnEiGIS1xcQfZoZE/s1600/ZBrush+Document.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFownPqXYjHydoWZ9PuivGr_e6p92CC5XWcbnvXkBhns5GDPsGvzCetYMJ6ffdAqmD4sYO_Jok307fYnlDPa6F-fmhzqGzuh2LAGBQMsRngHmNNRoUU3DxSrFQhHuNnEiGIS1xcQfZoZE/s1600/ZBrush+Document.jpg" height="246" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And finally Comicon, I'm onto texturing now and you can see im using Marmoset 2 to render out the process. Obviously i'm not finished but I'll walk you through some of the things I'm doing and still need to do. So first thing that's obvious is the hair still needs textured and i'll do that a dark brown or black. Trying to keep quite a limited colour palette as adding more colour just confuses the eye. The metal is too crisp at the minute and its also too light. I want it to be darker and have a strong contrast with the traditional x-men colours, also I've not decided between gold, copper or brass for the secondary metal material and that's why they are a mixture of them all. I still have to make the psyonic arm and i'm leaning more towards blue. I haven't done it yet because it will be on a texture sheet of itself because of its transparent qualities. I also need to sort out some support features with the shoulder plates to make them seem more believable. I will be rigging her soon so i can put her in her final pose but ill do that after I've textured her as it gives me a better idea on how it deforms. I have 4 texture maps at the minute and all of them will have diffuse, spec, reflection, normal. The separate arm might even have its over illumination map. So i have quite a bit to do still i might be finished it by the deadline if i can pull my hands out of my ass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8fBWpmrefwf_nSz3FAPjkQ7qjqHpQbKLii1GwHf67q1spY7wFQqIFfwW7VWh8c70nJfbWK_-ba0NLprRYQunYMJH9NXEfsVoz6m5gNuJ8sBMKfS8mMwIK3qT3skQcia1IwVLloHB-TC0/s1600/hisakoprogress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8fBWpmrefwf_nSz3FAPjkQ7qjqHpQbKLii1GwHf67q1spY7wFQqIFfwW7VWh8c70nJfbWK_-ba0NLprRYQunYMJH9NXEfsVoz6m5gNuJ8sBMKfS8mMwIK3qT3skQcia1IwVLloHB-TC0/s1600/hisakoprogress.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a><br /><br />There's also other crap I've been doing...like your mum. I'm sorry that was uncalled for, like i didn't call your mum afterwards. I apologize again i hope you have a lovely week guys that read this <3</div>
<br />Sam Henryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00516541191732122575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324714374092876562.post-59483495479188517252014-01-23T15:30:00.000-08:002014-01-23T15:30:04.739-08:00Zbrush UV Master & Noise Maker TutorialRight so I found a helpful thing out and so I want to share it. There is no point in having knowledge if you aren't gonna share it.<br /><br />So you want to put a texture onto your Zbrush Subtool, for example I have a T-shirt here. Now I want to add a clothing pattern to this. Okay so a few ways you could do this is by unwrapping it in Zbrush like how I'm going to show you or you could do it later in your texture process in which you create a tileable to overlay the shirt and create a normal map from that. So no matter what you have to unwrap it. I first thought unwrapping was annoying in Zbrush but it's simple if you know how.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAXVcRLrtSxfyvCMmK669Luork3NVwNcf7OMcNuMCIDI6aJhcFNk48-sdUfnJQywr0s_E29O6wGPFK0Qbisj6kiNA5CycQ4rVrlKIuIpqiPj_ym5v-ilgODGvHCcSVHc1Ig2UqkhUV_1E/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAXVcRLrtSxfyvCMmK669Luork3NVwNcf7OMcNuMCIDI6aJhcFNk48-sdUfnJQywr0s_E29O6wGPFK0Qbisj6kiNA5CycQ4rVrlKIuIpqiPj_ym5v-ilgODGvHCcSVHc1Ig2UqkhUV_1E/s1600/1.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1/ First go to your lowest subdivision > then access Zplugins and you'll see UV Master</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigyhDDyhjpByQqVdRsJtI8mL2R_MoUboisJDwggvGpLNhYvfu_mHS0KCbMNwYoLuxcqSUBKn7m_NREkhScSPiL7UcMhQEYSIGx0ETFKisE7V6ncBksPVG6iwNVeEXu0gdeTfBnS1U_wow/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigyhDDyhjpByQqVdRsJtI8mL2R_MoUboisJDwggvGpLNhYvfu_mHS0KCbMNwYoLuxcqSUBKn7m_NREkhScSPiL7UcMhQEYSIGx0ETFKisE7V6ncBksPVG6iwNVeEXu0gdeTfBnS1U_wow/s1600/2.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2/ Now you want to click "Work on Clone". This will make sure you don't mess up your original mesh and this will provide you with a new subtool to work on.<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixCbCXDpki3cxsNiGWgpTENkn_JcDNbLTO7gH3jIKglKCWMhxjf2c49ib9zpGkP2U_glhoCcLLMdN2V9LuAhwnUvRq3V2zOLhWd119Jj8G69dYujx35PK3rcD8kweYNIoMHfL32vyJiSg/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixCbCXDpki3cxsNiGWgpTENkn_JcDNbLTO7gH3jIKglKCWMhxjf2c49ib9zpGkP2U_glhoCcLLMdN2V9LuAhwnUvRq3V2zOLhWd119Jj8G69dYujx35PK3rcD8kweYNIoMHfL32vyJiSg/s1600/3.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
3/ So if i click flatten to preview my UV you can see it's just a mess. We need to define the areas for seams. So to do this you click " Enable control painting". You have three options Attract, Protect and erase. Attract will try to put the seams in that place. Protect will protect that area from seems and erase is used to fix any mistakes you do. This is good to do on faces for things like clothes I've found it easier to unwrap by polygroups. If you don't already have polygroups don't worry it's simple to add, just mask the area you want to make into a group and click CTRL + W. You can check this easily by using SHFT + F.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2-OQtcAVyLoB0aINWMqTFDSQ_SKOuYUdGvg7G9tOQtXYTGSWyEgBZnHHPXlbyho0XJy7wKBVonAupCEuqyeXxabbVPt1D7zfVOf8Nt43RozKaYjmfhuYIVRsf3mFnTTElIHl501uTsB4/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2-OQtcAVyLoB0aINWMqTFDSQ_SKOuYUdGvg7G9tOQtXYTGSWyEgBZnHHPXlbyho0XJy7wKBVonAupCEuqyeXxabbVPt1D7zfVOf8Nt43RozKaYjmfhuYIVRsf3mFnTTElIHl501uTsB4/s1600/4.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4/ Once your done you should have something like below. It looks like a template used in clothes making and that's what you'll be looking for. Now if I applied a texture now it wouldn't flow in the correct directions because the UV's aren't lines up straight.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
5/So to do this you just use the transpose tool like you would on a normal mesh. You can easily select and hide polygrouped meshes using CTRL+SHIFT+ L-CLICK on the object. Once your done it should look something similar to the below image. You are trying to keep the mesh as straight as you possibly can so it can deform the texture around the mesh better.</div>
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiEi3zqEfMXgLG4QUE-UlCdTW0mkKp30jdxNqWTm-F3IEcGYgWRmDu6JZpSYlPp4bU5R64RFKn3ANCl1zLBMRV9RwVXWxcvCgEgghjY703wcUswmiHzZGBqkXC_Mi5EZQvKp_koKaYA94/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiEi3zqEfMXgLG4QUE-UlCdTW0mkKp30jdxNqWTm-F3IEcGYgWRmDu6JZpSYlPp4bU5R64RFKn3ANCl1zLBMRV9RwVXWxcvCgEgghjY703wcUswmiHzZGBqkXC_Mi5EZQvKp_koKaYA94/s1600/6.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
6/Once you're done click "Copy UVs" in the UV Master panel and then you want to do back to your original mesh and press "Paste UVs". Now how I check if it worked okay is I go down to texture map under tool panel and press "New From UV Map". It then displays what it looks like on your model and you can always go back and forth between your new subtool to change anything. Just remember to copy and paste your new UVs every time.</div>
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZEp-INMbYKViLrk6sHd3fC8eLfRH9I__MjYwcjfPUb1IRiGHL19NRGnxXQNQiQI5derWyV1zu-qIOb7PXpuiCrNMUu6j6HJc9fJ2G-yhNZuk_QspRZahoNh5SFHY09NP3kkaOs4-QuI/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZEp-INMbYKViLrk6sHd3fC8eLfRH9I__MjYwcjfPUb1IRiGHL19NRGnxXQNQiQI5derWyV1zu-qIOb7PXpuiCrNMUu6j6HJc9fJ2G-yhNZuk_QspRZahoNh5SFHY09NP3kkaOs4-QuI/s1600/7.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
7/Okay the next step is NoiseMaker, you can fine this under "surface" again in the tools menu. Once you press Noise you will get the menu below and it kindly supplies us with a preview of what will happen. Now if you want to use your own alpha texture then down where it says "Alpha On/Off" in the bottom hand corner. Press that and you will get a link to your documents and you can find the image you want. But Zbrush has a lot of preset as well. So in this instance we will use that by pressing NoisePlug on the upper right hand corner.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIiwfYeK0YwFwssFnRz9KERY5vcRwVSvAFRCwqKPjRKJDZJwqxppcYuC-cj9yx0a1SXQ2kwLLnT86aX9W27mEEJfhl_dAoRQQ4KraU8dvaoIJh8utYb-pJspXU2Zr2CO4RuZpdd2DFhGA/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIiwfYeK0YwFwssFnRz9KERY5vcRwVSvAFRCwqKPjRKJDZJwqxppcYuC-cj9yx0a1SXQ2kwLLnT86aX9W27mEEJfhl_dAoRQQ4KraU8dvaoIJh8utYb-pJspXU2Zr2CO4RuZpdd2DFhGA/s1600/8.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
8/ More menus, I bet you wished you never started reading. Don't worry it's not that bad, there are a multitude of options to choose from but for the purpose of this demonstration I'm going to use Hextiles as it will be easy for you to see the difference. Obviously you would use a cotton tileable or something of that nature.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZ5toI0IJGdZo07j4Z9UfGik9mJ7kRN7Oa_eqoYWargkOUAa1KMI7MC0gu4Pz7Wu4lNDRvdl6wYXLXbp2bJ-Z-hZ6aZyUPUQxVc4MmRdIu_LSegCaDnZkdPfStONCwuKt5uDM-tGYJFo/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZ5toI0IJGdZo07j4Z9UfGik9mJ7kRN7Oa_eqoYWargkOUAa1KMI7MC0gu4Pz7Wu4lNDRvdl6wYXLXbp2bJ-Z-hZ6aZyUPUQxVc4MmRdIu_LSegCaDnZkdPfStONCwuKt5uDM-tGYJFo/s1600/9.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
9/ Now you can see once I applied the texture it has made this weird stretching. Now you can understand the whole reason why you have to do the first UV steps.<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

10/ Right the main reason you did all of this is then to use it as part of getting more detail in your mesh. So bump up your subdivisions then in the surface panel "Mask by Noise". This is a handy way of creating a precise mask across the mesh. What you can do now is use the deformation panel and offset or inflate parts to give you that next bit of detail for your high poly mesh.<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><span style="color: red;">IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE</span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You can see I have some weird stretching going on even still, if you want to rectify that you can edit the UV's when you are unwrapping the object. You can use move tool like normal and try and straighten out the mesh. Its a little time consuming and that's why I didn't do it for this tutorial but just keep that in mind. Try and make sure you have good texel density for your object.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRupX4vNzPw1U0vwTb9LO4O9P3ULy05QDFXUhdOUUJcHeKhwTY-JxuZmzW4plh1eqmtToNL80Rz-Ah1v0122b0M6JeT89KMCIEMOL4Fdp3NczF589cVgDVbLJszRQVotsY6-2CX9LAL9A/s1600/14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRupX4vNzPw1U0vwTb9LO4O9P3ULy05QDFXUhdOUUJcHeKhwTY-JxuZmzW4plh1eqmtToNL80Rz-Ah1v0122b0M6JeT89KMCIEMOL4Fdp3NczF589cVgDVbLJszRQVotsY6-2CX9LAL9A/s1600/14.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
So there you go that's a brief tutorial on what I learned. By in no means am I an expert but if you have any problems feel free to message me and I'll try to help. This might not be the most efficient way to do it but i find it quite useful especially for quilting and things like scales.<br /><br />Hope you found it useful :)<br /><br /></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
So been working on a few things, was searching a bit into Dota 2 items and started to make a Phantom Lancer weapon. This is the first weapon I've done in a long time and i wanted to do something simple so i could learn the process of making assets for valve. They do things differently than UDK and so it's interesting to learn another pipeline and they use a lot of masking mix maps for their Dota shader. Anywho here is a preview of how its coming along, still need plenty of work but its something to break up comicon.</div>
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK6N9ZFWFrEMYT3DXmvUJ2AWzjimMU1eUv9vrvRD3UdORh_JKHXllh-6oeqQnRNFexEVdnxP2ipVHnOBMm7GuzZ2bTVbg9rkXHWga7b9lh924rbY9tOTU6sYJ1G-6aP28eT3i9jUzxQjo/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK6N9ZFWFrEMYT3DXmvUJ2AWzjimMU1eUv9vrvRD3UdORh_JKHXllh-6oeqQnRNFexEVdnxP2ipVHnOBMm7GuzZ2bTVbg9rkXHWga7b9lh924rbY9tOTU6sYJ1G-6aP28eT3i9jUzxQjo/s1600/1.jpg" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />So I haven't been as productive as I should have been with the comicon challenge. I have been working alot in max again as that's where I'm most comfortable creating the shapes of the mesh. I tried to do this in Zbrush after watching a few tutorials learning about panel loops but i just feel more comfortable in max. I really want to bring my Zbrushing to the next level and so hopefully get in some good detailing into this model.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaHwc4ULfTrWnjMsXlaEG7XvqvtHv4GeVl0eDsBUuX2JUxkla_tJprEE-3i_s1pm-XALe38eSW7N2u8YT5FNxoa6PySlQ_Xt_bVma1aTDpvTh_WZH6vdVZt9WlRws8LJFZP-i9xL4DA44/s1600/03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaHwc4ULfTrWnjMsXlaEG7XvqvtHv4GeVl0eDsBUuX2JUxkla_tJprEE-3i_s1pm-XALe38eSW7N2u8YT5FNxoa6PySlQ_Xt_bVma1aTDpvTh_WZH6vdVZt9WlRws8LJFZP-i9xL4DA44/s1600/03.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Above is when i attempted to do the straps in Zbrush but I found it more difficult than with below which is my max version. I can do a number of techniques in max using the conform tools and the base topology to create a more hugging mesh.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPjZEJ49CSiUwurw1iZq7GbeMipQh6VhlYVhfvExIlAfE8A6_RJb15A8ZgdiOZ4Kd3bgf1p5xSWSGD5PsbmCZnwenY32XyIBX49OhyVzFWqMxZcbGx98rTj-CQ-4-thlcOQ6znQ0OBsNc/s1600/04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPjZEJ49CSiUwurw1iZq7GbeMipQh6VhlYVhfvExIlAfE8A6_RJb15A8ZgdiOZ4Kd3bgf1p5xSWSGD5PsbmCZnwenY32XyIBX49OhyVzFWqMxZcbGx98rTj-CQ-4-thlcOQ6znQ0OBsNc/s1600/04.jpg" height="320" width="237" /></a><br /></div>
I also did a silhouette check to see if she loos unique and still look like hisako. Feet need to be bigger again...maybe i have a fetish for small feet or I'm scare of giving her man feet but yeah i'll have to sort that out.<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So it's been a while since I tried a female character and the last time I intentionally did weird proportions so it's quite the change trying to get them right. Even though this is all based off comic book character which tend to be more slender and taller than the usual head height I want to try and make mine as realistic as I can. As you can see with my doodling I have a lot of changes to make right off the bat but I'm trying to notice the things that are wrong and amend them in the earlier stages when its a lot easier to fix it.<br /><br />Even now I am learning new things, mostly to do with Zbrush in which I welded two subtools together without a seem using subtool master and importing the mesh to weld the points. Learning more about the interface and ways to enhance it better for myself. I did a crappy unwrap of my base mesh in order to create the poly groups, this seemed easier than trying to mask off the areas in Zbrush especially when some stuff is close together (which reminds me i really should spread my arms a bit). Learning is fun :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sorry if you can't read my crappy writing and so here are my rants copied just in case you can't.<br />- Soften head features - volumise hair more<br />- Make eyes less anime - thicken wrists<br />- Hands need to be bigger? - do the legs need more girth<br />
- Arms too long? - feet too small or forearm too big?<br />-Taper in neck - calves a bit flat (ankles ain't that dainty)<br />
- Flatten nose bridge - neck still too long (I already fiddled with this)<br />- Round butt more, careful though shes suppose to be Asian at the end of the day (no offense)<br /><br />Any more suggestions or help would be highly appreciated, I made a game artisans account today so I'll have to post my stuff soon and get some crit.<br />

Playing about cause I'm a freak, no real reason but I want to keep playing with the costume, unless I'm doing "final" in which case this is just a waste of time. But at the current moment in time I'm still liking the stand idea and I like her without as much armor on. So i might just keep swapping in and out to see what I think looks better while keeping her unique but true to the character. Character design is tough sometimes :/</div>

Unfortunately it hasn't been running for the last few years so i was eager at its return. I'm a nerd and so love games and comics so it's a great way to express that love.<br />
<br />
So Comicon always has a theme and this years is "Final Stand", the choices are "final" in which to pick a character and have them in the midst of battle weary and about to unleash their last effort to win, Or "stand" in which a hero has returned after a long time for the first time ready to face the battlefield and save the world.<br />
<br />
At first these seemed hard for me to get my head around but the more I thought about it the more excited I got. The possibilities with the both of them are immense with huge potential, the only thing was I had to pick a character. Easier said than done, I love so many characters in comic books but i knew it was going to be part of the X-men universe as they are my favourite. So after a few hours researching I decided on Armor, as I researched more into her I got more excited at the possibilities she posed. She has the ability to create and exoskeleton of armor to fight and protect herself. I love this concept and think it would translate really well into an awesome model.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzOYp-oUHDgXCkgHbqKCto3HqKxRqL2Z0jwk5OzKCmFJdaLTLGIKJwmdpYze4qUxz6AM4wrGHdy5LY8DuUhZ_Nr6urqCGyTkrn3PBlJfYRasXzrKu_OTJeGbIl8kbx6jd01yINVlw8E-Q/s1600/hisakoMoodboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzOYp-oUHDgXCkgHbqKCto3HqKxRqL2Z0jwk5OzKCmFJdaLTLGIKJwmdpYze4qUxz6AM4wrGHdy5LY8DuUhZ_Nr6urqCGyTkrn3PBlJfYRasXzrKu_OTJeGbIl8kbx6jd01yINVlw8E-Q/s1600/hisakoMoodboard.jpg" height="282" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So what theme to choose, final or stand. Well they both provided me with interesting ideas and so i thought I would sketch and come up with what I was thinking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTrFWFGZcBSMA8x7igNQvBWHWK8mdWt_GdyppKZOmO-lgphggtS4hp2E_s2VVVibm4O9gWx_tvm9RnkyDG2BGW58FJLJqO48y5y_kJOZm8b3-11VIPjYO-sQ-lwV6H7r-H4ntAH07TBY/s1600/Hisako.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTrFWFGZcBSMA8x7igNQvBWHWK8mdWt_GdyppKZOmO-lgphggtS4hp2E_s2VVVibm4O9gWx_tvm9RnkyDG2BGW58FJLJqO48y5y_kJOZm8b3-11VIPjYO-sQ-lwV6H7r-H4ntAH07TBY/s1600/Hisako.jpg" height="223" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It took me a while to get what I was thinking, i revised the character multiple times just trying out different things before coming to the above. So as you can see you have nude sketch then now outfit, outfit with my take on her armor activated then the themes, final and stand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlxyRcBKJPN0x7zTT5AORR3FPq8n13nDesM9RxzGqt5XNrDGz27TmVlmRLV0YFZW9QRsII8y5bKFZrX3-tqWHZZq9GisKZvGRllZTANLGQAsk5Z0owSatq7cBSZlsiL2iTVgVOCBIw_QE/s1600/Horyuji-Nio-Ungyoh-Agyoh-9952-9953-XL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlxyRcBKJPN0x7zTT5AORR3FPq8n13nDesM9RxzGqt5XNrDGz27TmVlmRLV0YFZW9QRsII8y5bKFZrX3-tqWHZZq9GisKZvGRllZTANLGQAsk5Z0owSatq7cBSZlsiL2iTVgVOCBIw_QE/s1600/Horyuji-Nio-Ungyoh-Agyoh-9952-9953-XL.jpg" height="247" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So for <span style="color: red;">"Final"</span> I wanted it to look like she had a tough time in this battle, she has multiple cuts, hair has been torn out and has even lost and arm. Losing the arm is something I definitely wanted, the idea that she can generate an exoskeleton in replace of the arm excited me. Now for her last attack (otherwise beauty shot) I would either have her in full armor mode but the armor takes on the form of an Nio, an ancient Japanese guardian. It has been expressed that armor has a link to her Japanese ancestors and that her power can almost remember what its went through. So either that or one last punch with her lost arm in armor mode.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgseGRIqqjr9ZedvyHmhBjsMNb4OdehFNech-Bo0EzITVmeAl8l6iDoaC_mWBefBpSekbxelYVWLObxq1OWegUqIPqppdvtGrnCN2FLYODWPNZBADBoaMFQxt05Fa6XTEg2EPKml0w0mLE/s1600/HisakoFuture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgseGRIqqjr9ZedvyHmhBjsMNb4OdehFNech-Bo0EzITVmeAl8l6iDoaC_mWBefBpSekbxelYVWLObxq1OWegUqIPqppdvtGrnCN2FLYODWPNZBADBoaMFQxt05Fa6XTEg2EPKml0w0mLE/s1600/HisakoFuture.jpg" height="276" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-4URPrlhyphenhyphenejAXHXiSe8amAlxpopnu7F6N6nQtYaZgusqch4GeNomoyW_zE2-a8FriAoQlhtnQsfb90zsczpenMp9jc_kgp7UKCBUbTK6a263MdRUSpdB7B0OZZZhzDggy7sHG4qmbSY/s1600/Moodboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-4URPrlhyphenhyphenejAXHXiSe8amAlxpopnu7F6N6nQtYaZgusqch4GeNomoyW_zE2-a8FriAoQlhtnQsfb90zsczpenMp9jc_kgp7UKCBUbTK6a263MdRUSpdB7B0OZZZhzDggy7sHG4qmbSY/s1600/Moodboard.jpg" height="282" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
For<span style="color: orange;"> </span><span style="color: red;">"Stand"</span> I wanted to do some redesigning and more than this incorporate both the themes to make a story in which she had fought out this battle 10 years ago and lost the courage, the battle and her arm. She has been training in Japan to get stronger so this time she won't fail. This means that her arm would still be missing and I loved the idea of having her armor on all the time with a samurai sword. Usually She can only use it for about an hour or two and so this would show her progress already. Now the armor arm she has on can change i'm not sure how i want it to look but I thought a more slim line human version would be cool or the complete opposite, maybe like a hellboy arm type motif. As for her outfit I liked the idea of even though I've based it 10 years in the future she is staying quite tradition almost medieval armor (maybe samurai armor would make more sense but it's what looks good right?) I kept the traditional colours of the x-men declaring shes still with them. For this beauty shot I would have her on top of a rock as if entering the battlefield.<br />
<br />
At the minute I am leaning more towards stand probably because I'm obsessed with metal armor at the minute and I feel it would be a stronger entry than "final". One other problem i can foresee is the competition rules state no other characters and so i might be breaching those rules because the exoskeleton could be seen as a full character model and even though attached to armor it's still another model that would need to be retopo'd, textured...etc.<br />
<br />
Anywho I think I've rambled on enough I will try keep you all updated. By all i mean maybe the two people that actually read my bullshit :DSam Henryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00516541191732122575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324714374092876562.post-34075608844097526482013-11-14T16:21:00.000-08:002013-11-14T16:21:11.390-08:0010,000 Page views<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So finally got to that mark, to be honest it has more to do with my AC art posts and the Machinarium concept pieces. But never the less still a big milestone, so a special little post for you guys...not 3D stuff...waaaaaaat I hear you say. Yes I am shocked too.<br /><br /> I entered the scribblenaut competition in which you had to draw DC heroes or villians in the scibblenaut style. It was a fun little painting to do and I enjoy doing cute stuff like who doesn't? I chose to do the circus of strange which are not very well known Batman villains but i found them interesting ans so based a small scene around them.</div>

I hope to draw more as I do miss it, i might upload some of my sketch book sketches too but i hardly find the time to do that either. But heres to 10 thousand views and hopefully a lot more.<br /><br />Sammy's words of wonder: Dreams are only a figment of imagination but all goals are achievable. <br />Yes people I'm not dead just yet so why haven't I been updating my blog then? Well a number of things, firstly being my family are trying to make up for the 3 years I spent at university by dragging me about the country. I don't mind it but it makes for less work. Other reasons are I'm just too lazy to upload and demotivation. So lets see what I can cram into a blog.<br />
<br />
First thing i was working on was a thing for a small games company. I never got it finished due to the routine i had but still not allowed to show you guys what I did cause that would be wrong of me. So just take that as I did some low poly character texture practice but a bear ate my hard drive and now all that's left is this conspicuous blurry image that has nothing to do with the previous paragraph.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQEoLiAgN-4jIStjENxIV-i8wcjxdtrLDuxsO1RDTDudHCEb3YFqlbla6ebqnnTynpPEuTmytJBKqek1WCCQC25P53iV_si2629ktnXZr0xDoSZHKxc_tuQjgNJSvp65ThIBPoA0J_SQY/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQEoLiAgN-4jIStjENxIV-i8wcjxdtrLDuxsO1RDTDudHCEb3YFqlbla6ebqnnTynpPEuTmytJBKqek1WCCQC25P53iV_si2629ktnXZr0xDoSZHKxc_tuQjgNJSvp65ThIBPoA0J_SQY/s320/1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />Recently been working on the guy character I started ages ago. I kinda left it for a while then came back to after some more tutorials and research to try help improve my ability to texture as I know that's where I suffer. But another main thing is detailing in zbrush. i have to focus on skin texture and details like pores. It is something i don't do right now because im still trying to find out whats the best way to do these. Below is progress on the hands, they need a lot of work but i find myself getting bored when it comes to adding details and so i need to find a way to make it fun really.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh54N7V8Ib89kg8id5u-w9TvCzwq90dzEMpbIoXsaFW1U5CU1NsK2CswsD1FaQNY9DZ0q3tXSzOKqTbXrEyddUPT9GEliI02ZxY9mOKa7xTwEjVnXWjtrDhH9rfuVUQgMl5i45FgFiSuKE/s1600/19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh54N7V8Ib89kg8id5u-w9TvCzwq90dzEMpbIoXsaFW1U5CU1NsK2CswsD1FaQNY9DZ0q3tXSzOKqTbXrEyddUPT9GEliI02ZxY9mOKa7xTwEjVnXWjtrDhH9rfuVUQgMl5i45FgFiSuKE/s320/19.jpg" width="320" /></a><br /><br />So to try and counteract what i said with adding details i tried to do this on the shoe and go into more detail than i normally would. This was a great test and it showed me how much masking is important and how knowing your zbrush is important. Now I'm not saying it's perfect, i have to again go around in another clean up pass and detail pass but I'm making progress.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiOjsFZpX2RHCw47-ZpPbUqturFcsh7ZXsafaCuaGUDdy0qadqdw6rUmhnXOEhjaD5tgsMzFVoWFhCbgSWTFlkosHdzC-IJSi3K1du00oJLar-yptyn2M1ZyrIu_rQHY8KNDq1KrQ_pSU/s1600/18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiOjsFZpX2RHCw47-ZpPbUqturFcsh7ZXsafaCuaGUDdy0qadqdw6rUmhnXOEhjaD5tgsMzFVoWFhCbgSWTFlkosHdzC-IJSi3K1du00oJLar-yptyn2M1ZyrIu_rQHY8KNDq1KrQ_pSU/s320/18.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took an evening to work on a new head for my character, I watched a lot of tutorials and tried to absorb as much information as i could and implement that into a new head sculpt. I much prefer this head to my previous. Again lacking those skin details but the shape and form is there. i think right now where i am less comfortable with Zbrush detailing I will prob do height map pores and overplay with the sculpt normal as I understand that a little more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgauIR54SpFpe_mFMwCqMukVZGs84jGN3bhSC3D14WQRv1fYKEfJ4cr3gH_5lK7k9f8aHrtxBV2G4xrEO86VltvXd23jf9gyi2v_TuwuMTOc8TG2NYWnwQl5cWm_NTAVzA7u8sBPkbnfGc/s1600/17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgauIR54SpFpe_mFMwCqMukVZGs84jGN3bhSC3D14WQRv1fYKEfJ4cr3gH_5lK7k9f8aHrtxBV2G4xrEO86VltvXd23jf9gyi2v_TuwuMTOc8TG2NYWnwQl5cWm_NTAVzA7u8sBPkbnfGc/s320/17.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So here is some progress below, i have found that separating up my mesh into bitable chunks it has made it easier for me to do everything. I try focus on a sculpt then export that subtool into max and retopo then back to the sculpt again. Its an odd way to work but it keeps the sculpting progress from getting stangant and stops u from having tunnel vision.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I finally started to texture, there is something awesome about texturing that i do enjoy. Now i never thought i would say that but its were your model comes together. I will be using both hand painting and references to create this character again hopefully watching dem tutorials has helped me understand the texturing of a character. These are just rough textures for the mean time and i will build up the detail in layers.</div>

P.s. I haven't sculpted the hair properly and so that's why he's temporary bald but i will be using alphas for this model to get me used to that method once again.<br />

Right also as another test I took a cube from the Zbrush tools and sculpted lips on it. I learnt a lot about lips from one tutorial i found on youtube. It's pretty interesting cause u aren't fixed to any decision and this is quite liberating and you just kinda go with it. It means i was more apt to change things if it just wasn't working for me. Also here you see the skin in more bumpy than what I usually do. this is from watching a tutorial from a character artist in which they like to add and substract the skin in order to give detail. He doesn't use the smooth feature instead using this push and pull to achieve a more organic look. It's quite cool but very time consuming and i really should have used the alpha i did because it made my life harder. I also tried to give this thing a body but i just wasn't feeling it, i tired a few alterations but ended up dumping them because it didn't look right. All in the name of progress :D</div>

I took a little break to day to do something fun. I was watching Puppycat for the eleventh hundred time and I started to watch some Bravest Warriors. This cartoon is done by the same guys as Adventure Time and even Fairy Odd Parents back in the day. I wanted to model one of them so I picked one, Danny looked cool and so I spent today modelling him. This is not game ready, not unwraped just coloured using basic max skills and rendered though the consistent colour viewport. But it came out well I think, he's a little sideways chubby so I'm going to fix that but it was a cool little test and it didn't take me all day either. I went visiting a relative, watched hours of youtube, watched the tipping point and failed at answering even the most basic of questions...etc. I might do some more of the Bravest Warriors universe because I enjoyed this one so much.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So been trying to work on a modern character that would be a main or side character in a game. This is to challenge myself into doing higher poly stuff and it will add a nice piece for my portfolio. I have shit tonnes to do and trying to stay focused is always a problem but I'm being fairly productive over the last couple of days so hoping to keep this up. No doubt I enjoy doing characters a lot more than environments, the hard thing is characters don't just take a day or two to do and so it makes it a challenge when you're quiet fickle on projects as I am. Anywho I sketched out the idea and it isn't a concrete must stick to sketch, there is things I will change. For example I did want high boots but then weirdly enough i wanted to try and do hairy legs and see what problems that would give me. I would presume it would just be part of the diffuse but you could alpha them. Always choosing the hardest option eh, I also love low crotch jeans, you see here I drew shorts, as for now this is staying but I might end up just making it shorts in the end because it will be 10 times easier to rig. I gathered some ref of the clothes I was kind of thinking off;</div>

<span style="text-align: start;">So here's my progression on the sculpt. I want to have multiple layers on this character to make it more realistic. I also want to add tattoos to break the character's body up a bit. Although i do have a problem in which my base sculpt was one centimeter off due to an accidental rotation. This means when I'm sculpting it isn't symmetrical This wouldn't provide that much of a problem only the hands really fucked up on me, on is sculpted like a hand and the other has con-caved fingers.</span></div>

<br />I haven't started on the clothes yet, trying to get the body form right first and I add details. DETAILS DETAILS, this is important because I often try and leave the details out because its the most time consuming and hardest but not this time spammy. I have to increase the hand size because they are looking rather small, might largen the feet a little as well. I don't have an ethnicity yet but i think I'm going to go for Asian in the end. I also don't have a hairstyle in mind but I am going alpha this so I'm going to leave that to 3ds Max.<br /><br />So yerg yet another project in my folder of ongoing. Have faith guys I'll finish this shit :D<br /><br />Sam Henryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00516541191732122575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324714374092876562.post-44005998883698381432013-07-11T10:30:00.000-07:002013-07-11T10:31:06.678-07:00Dat Swag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So what you at Mr Henry? Why thank you for asking blogger :) Well I just wanna model shit and so I have been. I wanted to try some character work since FMP, in a number of ways. First I just started with a sphere and tried to make it into something human, using a celeb as reference. Of course there is plenty wrong with it but what would i need practice for if I was already perfect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also tried my hand at a different bust, this is kimarhi from FFX but my version I guess. This tests many things and again lots wrong but LEARNING. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And the best of the whole thing is I've been inspired by Aymen's stuff and I've had this little thing in my mind for a while. This is Mute, Mute is a newt, he cannot talk but he's great at rolling and jumping. I hope to getting him all rigged and slithering along a cute environment.</div>

I've also started work on this fella cause hes fucking cool, I only have a base mesh at the minute so nothing exciting to show. But the main thing here to note is I'm trying to burst out all this energy, but i need to start and focus on one project at a time. That is a problem with me, I like to flit back and forth so for now I'm going to pick one and then finish it. I have something to show then instead of a hundred WIP's, anywho that is all bros :)</div>

Last weekend I went to a 24 hour game jam event in Lincoln University. I worked with three programmers to attempt to produce a game in that period of time. We were given the tile of Uranium Madness and so based a game on elements and a capture the node based system. I, of course was in charge of the art and below is the stuff I worked on over the period of time.</div>

You can see my work ranged from Hud to in-game sprites. I made everything in 3DsMax and unwrapped, textured then rendered out the images. This is a longer way to do things rather than just drawing them but I wanted the hand painted practice. It was an awesome day to get out and understand how programmers work but it was very hard, trying to work for 24 hours is not an easy task. Unfortunately we weren't able to get a game together due to the code crashing but I still had fun and I learned a lot from the experience.<br />

I decided I would give myself an hour challenge and see how I get on. I started with getting an idea through generators.<br /><br />Ivy Sparrow is what I got, I recorded my timings below;<br /><br />Started = 16:39<br />Finished researcg &concepting = 16: 47 8 minutes<br />Finished Model = 17:06 19 minutes<br />Finish Unwrapping = 17:13 7 minutes<br />Finish Diffuse = 17:47 34 minutes<br />
<br />
So I didn't do a normal or a specular, that's a bit much to ask in that time But you can see the model below, I hope to do this again in the week, try and quicken myself up for a long night of modelling on Saturday, but it was a fun exercise. On later thought minus the ivy up the bird and alpha it on the stick.<br />

I have been trying to still attend these sessions as I recall last year the appalling amount of people that attended. I enjoy life art, it is something that was so daunting but now I love to just sit there and draw my own thing. Over the period of the three years I have been changing my style and now I have found one which I enjoy doing. I'm not one for charcoal or fanatic about paints, I like me an my little mechanical sketching away into fairy land.<br />

I'm not too tired at the minute and so I might try and refresh my memory on how to rig.<br />

Okay so after receiving some constructive critique from Mikey & Chris about the stylized proportions of the character I spend the morning tweaking the mesh to make it more realistic. I see where they are coming from in terms of i need to be consistent with the style to make it work. I love TF2 below are some of their characters and you see they are stylizes the same but in different wants. they all have tapering feet, their arms and forearms are larger, the skeleton is more torso heavy for the most part of them. But they still look in proportion to themselves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKummO8C9CkRTeIf1MCXlz2RFA2k1sroCCAB2Que8LeCiNLTHIFN0F3HpIBi_F4uHXrWUptxkQNhzZinfGxOpupcEmUnUi8c0thzST2frFwJpO8aBNAZrIKh-BGhbPfkIHm0hF6C0ATc/s1600/TF2Characters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="125" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKummO8C9CkRTeIf1MCXlz2RFA2k1sroCCAB2Que8LeCiNLTHIFN0F3HpIBi_F4uHXrWUptxkQNhzZinfGxOpupcEmUnUi8c0thzST2frFwJpO8aBNAZrIKh-BGhbPfkIHm0hF6C0ATc/s400/TF2Characters.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Right so I got some reference pictures up and started to amend the mesh a bit, i put the flat diffuse on as well so it's easier to tell what part is what. I shortened the whole character, areas like the legs and boot were too long. The arms obviously were too big so i decreased them. The average is 7 and a half heads tall, i made her 8 because she was becoming stumpy and it seems to work okay. The previous model was 8 and a half, I put the hand to the face to check the proportions were correct then placed them back on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju9T7cXMWcpGtX4sYtEDObJBOZuvp9t83YaNDmfYl79_ZrN8_fJS52En4-JoVeWe6ihj2sQFjq1aoa-yFAI17yhxI0xz_RCgL-zzdMI4NgtlZmPaGlZLoDgae4LNWAVcElIEO8rk_5xls/s1600/Revisions01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="165" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju9T7cXMWcpGtX4sYtEDObJBOZuvp9t83YaNDmfYl79_ZrN8_fJS52En4-JoVeWe6ihj2sQFjq1aoa-yFAI17yhxI0xz_RCgL-zzdMI4NgtlZmPaGlZLoDgae4LNWAVcElIEO8rk_5xls/s400/Revisions01.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
But as i stated in the red I though the shoulders were too square so i lowered them a bit and i still wasn't happy with the hands. So i did more adjustments, making legs smaller again, i widened the waist...etc.So any crit would be good at this time to see if the proportions are better :) in the meantime I will finish the texturing.<br />

I also looked at bigger curvier women in case I wanted to go that way with the model. Its something I might do at the end is make her more curvy just for fun, I think it would add more character but at the same time the concept is thin but it can be like a different version :)</div>

So its been a while since i updated where my model is at, low poly is done, unwrapping is finished. Total tri count is <span style="text-align: center;">8,826. AO's are baked, high poly is baked, base is done. So what is now is going into make the items of clothing look like the materials they are suppose to be. I still have to rig but it shouldn't take very long so all in all i'm not doing too bad with timing, its all about just getting stuck in and doing the last parts to really sell the character.</span></div>

On a side note any second years that read my blog here are a few websites you can search pictures for your inspiration talk. Search them and type in the things you want to look at and I'm sure you will find some awesome stuff. You should be inspired by the world around you and what people create, if you haven't started an inspiration folder, do it now. It will become your library of awesome you go to feed your brain when it's hungry for ideas;</div>

So update, I'm onto Zbrushing and fighting my computer stupid pen pressure but you can see better the stylized proportions of the character. Below are some of the materials i will have on the character and some ref for folds and colour. So i want to be quite subtle with the fold and detail but i will experiment with a few brush strokes and stuff since the model will be stylized it makes sense for the textures to be. I might do a blog on other peoples characters and how they have done their characters in Zbrush. Okay that is all without dragging it out into a rant.</div>

Right so the next project is the aviator and I spent a few days building a mesh for Zbrush. I wanted to stay close to the original design but exaggerate quality's like bigger hands, longer legs, bouffant of hair...etc. Taking a lot of inspiration from dishonoured because of its awesome stylization. So yeah I have been dragging this out because I don't have a pen tablet at the minute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ZF-YvYiQ-iEnYQZn9-KrncoMxTEHe_rYqN2HReiXTkfLExbVA-VrQh3-EhUA2RZRExrx21q4glzEVVChy0p1kghTNrWnK58p4T-pPo6Ni_8ScPcX2dzmHGTCsqQZ7w3L5ufa9tjN-SU/s1600/ScreenshotAviator01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ZF-YvYiQ-iEnYQZn9-KrncoMxTEHe_rYqN2HReiXTkfLExbVA-VrQh3-EhUA2RZRExrx21q4glzEVVChy0p1kghTNrWnK58p4T-pPo6Ni_8ScPcX2dzmHGTCsqQZ7w3L5ufa9tjN-SU/s320/ScreenshotAviator01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So heres the base at the minute, gonna do a few test scultps. Need to search me some folds and faces and stuff. Below is the concept of the image and one of the dishonored inspiration sculpts :D<br />

Long time no see blog, I have missed you and now I have to do a major update :D<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyVXjBzeoW5RLqcxdChR495SnnUT_gWsFYN-LeZ04WmQF1zn_cAuk3Qn2tHH4SAtKZP_jz7PGgnjKbN2ytPTw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sound does not belong to me, I can only do so much, creating music isn't one of them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So I finally get around to finishing off my rooftop...I say finished there is much that needs to be done still but for now I am leaving it at this so i can focus my attention on Aviator. So what has this taken me so long to do? With a combination of being lazy and bad time management I would say. I'm not a person to make excuses, I'm a twat for not getting it done earlier and that's my fault but when i find the motivation i drive though.<br />
<br />Okay so thoughts, Sammy hates texturing and so didn't do it for a long time, this is something I will change during FMP, I will model, unwrap and texture and asset before moving onto the next one. That way I can get to do the part I enjoy as well as keep me focused and on track.<br /><br />So what annoys me most? Its the super clean floor and no dynamic shadows, so that is definitely something I will play with but as with UDK nothing is as simple as one tick box. But what things did Heather tell me to do at assessment and did I do it? Well it was a blank canvas and she told me to get it textured so that's done. She also said that I had a really boring area in my level which I placed a big sign :D.<br /><br />Here are some screenshots too, my level is a weird one because it would benefit from a portrait screenshot but obviously I can't do that, and nope can't take two and merge it in photoshop because everything is rotating it would be almost impossible to time up.<br /><br />

Problems encountered...do you have to ask? KISMET, okay I like kismet its not bad and i thought the Ferris wheel was going to be a doddle. Oh how I was wrong Adding separate lights was the biggest regret of my scene, but i couldn't do it in groups because that would have went over budget Now I spent literally hours and hours researching the best way to do this and their seemed to be a way but you had to learn to code. I my fine sirs am not a coder and so i searched and searched and found a method of attaching the light to an existing track, that way i wouldn't have to manually move every light around in a circle. So I thought you could attach multiple lights to a node....nope it wasn't happening. And so i had to do it the long way, now this isn't what they would do in industry but I wouldn't be doing this in a job so be prepared for my image of death.</div>

I actually exceeded kismet limit...i didn't think this was possible but even with that error message everything seems to still move okay. now I couldn't make an image big enough for you to actuallly see what's happening, thats as far as i can zoom out and i still had to use 3 screenshots to get that image. I hope you appreciate the hours I spend connecting and lining up nodes, no joke like never mind hours lets calculate in days.<br /><br />Nevertheless it works and thats all that matters :D</div>

Vintage and colourful, awesome. I played around with presentation and found and old game called vintage carbon, it has a really nice stamp set up and so i took insipration from that and produced this. I did it in half an hour before I handed in disk, it's alright. My car is a bit dark, maybe should have rendered on yellow like they did...</div>
